Rodrigo Vera Diaz is a skilled litigator with over 20+ years of international legal experience, practicing as a Legal Associate at Burnside Law Group. He focuses on immigration litigation, as well as criminal and civil litigation cases. Rodrigo is known for delivering involving legal strategies and practical solutions in high-stakes and sensitive situations.
His practice includes refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and all types of sponsorship cases, with a strong commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable clients. A native Spanish speaker and fluent in English, Rodrigo offers bilingual legal representation, ensuring accessible and culturally aware legal services.
Rodrigo holds a law degree from Chile (recognized in Canada as the equivalent to a bachelor’s and master’s degree) and recently completed his Master of Law (LLM) Degree in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School (York University). His international background enhances his ability to navigate multi-jurisdictional matters for both Civil Law and Common law and thus to readily adapt legal strategies to the Canadian context.
Rodrigo also teaches (via online instruction) public and private international law at the graduate level in Chile, actively contributing to the Universidad del Desarrollo’s legal education programs. Beyond academia, Rodrigo hosts a Spanish-language podcast where he voluntarily provides legal guidance and support to individuals facing legal challenges in Chile.
As a Reserve Artillery Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Rodrigo brings leadership, discipline, and a strong ethical foundation to every case he handles.
Outside of Work:
In his free time, Rodrigo enjoys spending quality time with his family, wine tasting and gourmet cooking, and exploring Nova Scotia on his motorcycle,. He is also a passionate Star Wars fan.
